Athos

Athos is an original Canal du Midi barge – built low enough that her wheelhouse fits under the Midi’s 16thC bridges.  She was 1 of 4 barges built in 1964 as wine, grain and sand barges, along with the other “Muskateers”:  Portos, Aramis and Dartagnan.  The 4 barges were known to Midi lock-keepers as the Petit Train.  Julian joined Athos to “help out” a friend in 1988. At that time, the friend was a part-owner in the boat, and not very mechanically-minded. On hearing the description of “hotel-barging”, Julian told the friend he thought it sounded boring – but he was willing to help out for 6 months…Dannielle arrived in 1998 for a seasonal job before going back to University. In the end, she did both: went back to university and then returned to France – and Julian. After 2 years of leasing Athos, Dannielle & Julian bought Athos in 2004. And the rest is history…
